Hi I am Guy and I am here to talk to you about the life of a BMX rider. When you hear the sound, riders ready watch the gate, the lights go the gate slams down and everyone goes flying out fighting for the whole shot, the gate is one of the the most important parts about BMX racing.

BMX all started back in 1969-early 70’s when kids started riding their bikes on dirt tracks in southern California, this sport was started by kids, the riders liked they originally called it pedal-cross but they eventually called it bicycle motocross BMX for short.

After a while BMX grabbed the attention of thousands of kids. Boys and girls on their modified bicycles were seen riding through the berms and jumps of any available dirt  they could find. One of the first BMX racing bike was called a Redline, Redline used to make motocross bikes but they decided to make a BMX bike for a Christmas present for one of their kids.

fitness
For my BMX fitness, there is a lot of training to do if you want to be a good BMX rider. I have to do lots of sit ups, press ups, squats, box jumps and planks, I have different workouts that I have to do. I have to do sit ups and press ups every morning. Then there is the different kind of fitness on your bike, there is sprints you can do uphill, downhill or flat. I have got a start gate as well so I can practice my gates at home but not many people have them at their house though.

In the past there have been a lot of riders that have won medals in the Olympics, and have become world champions or very close to it. Sarah Walker got the silver medal in the London Olympics in 2012 and Marc Willers got 2nd at the worlds in Auckland last year. One of the very good riders are Kurt Pickard, he also went to the Olympics in 2012 as well but he had a very bad crash on the first corner.

These days there is a lot of bike brands around such as Thrill, Pure, Supercross ETC. At the moment I am riding a pure but I will be riding a thrill soon because I am getting sponsored. You can also get a lot of sponsorship as well in BMX now. You will only need a sponsor when you get to about 10 years old and you will get discounts on the bike frames and the gear that you put on it

Impact term 3-4 2014

14/8/14
Term 3 week 4
Today at tech I was in metal work with Mr Chivers. Me, Sam, and Nico are making a basketball hoop. today we only did part of the design of the hoop on paper. Then after that we started making a box for some more skills.

28/8/14
Term 3 Week 5
Today at tech we only did some of the box that we are making. We had to cut the edges on the box and use the bending machine. But we did not get to start making the hoop.

11/9/14
Term 3 week 8
Today at tech I finished making the box that I was making. I had to spot weld all of the tabs together with the box and then I had to drill holes so we could screw the screws into the wood that we used for the handle and now my box is done.

18/9/14
Term 3 Week 9
Today at tech my group started to bend some metal for practice of making the real hoop, but it did not go very well because it started to turn into a spiral and the ends were not going end to end.

25/9/14
Term 3 Week 10
Today at tech we were bending the metal for the hoop but the ends of the metal that we are bending is not going end to end so we will have to fix that. We also tried to find some metal for the back part of the hoop that connects on to the backboard.

16/10/14
Term 4 Week 1
Today at tech we had to cut a little bit of the ends of the rim that we bended so the rim would be the same size of the the other one, but then the ends that were meant to join together were uneven when they touched each other so we had to cut a bit of one of the ends to make it even. After that Mr Chivers welded it for us so now we need to make the plate that connects the hoop to the backboard.

30/10/14
Term 4 Week 3
Today at tech we had to drill three holes on the metal plate then we bended it half way round. We had to do a lot of filing today and we finaly got to the best part when Mr chivers welded the metal plate to the rim and now it looks really good.

6/11/14
Term 4 Week 4
Today at tech we had to bend the metal rods that we use for reinforcement on the hoop but we bended it the wrong way then Mr chivers had to show us what to do so next week hopefully we get it welded on we probably will. It is getting really exciting and I think we might get it finished in about 2-3 weeks.
